Chuchotements(Whispers) 2010
Influenced by artists such as Casper David Friedrich, Arshille Gorky, Prunella Clough, Brice Marden and reading selected works of Barthes, Kundera, Murakami while grappling with Heidegger and Bergsonism,
The artist explores the ‘here and now’ and ‘beyond’ of the Romantic Tradition and seeks to discover our primitive connections.
Process plays an important role in investigating the idea of how we recall moments and experiences within the realm of time and space.
Paint is applied, removed and re-applied in a continuous search for essence and clarity. The painted abstract elements; thoughts and ideas, both seen and unseen, imagined or partly remembered, are exposed and revealed seemingly from the depth of the canvas itself. Striations of paint which remain allude to ancient rock formations found in nature. |
